Guidelines for Contributions (approved June 15, 2002)

1. Manuscript creation and submission

i1j The language used must be either Japanese or English.

i2j Manuscripts must be typeset horizontally and use the footnote system (do not place footnotes at the end of the document).  Explanatory notes shall be numbered consecutively.

i3j All manuscripts shall have a cover page stating, in Roman letters, the title, authorfs name(s), authorfs affiliation and up to five keywords.

i4j Manuscripts shall be submitted in the following sequence: the above-mentioned cover page, text, references, figures and tables, and abstract in English (300 words or less, to be submitted after it has been determined that the document will be published).

i5j After the manuscript has been approved for publication, submit the original manuscript (hardcopy) together with an electronic copy, such as on floppy disk.  (The manuscript may also be sent by email as an attached file).  Manuscript files that have been created on word processors must be converted to MS-DOS or other format such that the file can be read on a personal computer.

2. Reference notations

i1j       Reference notations for explanatory notes shall be abbreviated in the following sequence: author name (or editor name), (year of publication, and page(s) quoted).  For example, Makino (1996:25), Otsuka, Liu and Murakami or Otsuka et. al (2000:12-18).

i2j References shall be listed in the sequence of Japanese reference texts followed by Chinese reference texts and lastly European language texts.  Each category shall be listed alphabetically according to the authorfs family name (or according to the Pinyin standard for Chinese names).

i3j As a general rule, each kind of reference shall be annotated as follows:

Books: the authorfs (editorfs) name, year of publication, title, place of publication (for foreign language references), and publishing company.

Articles and essays: Authorfs name, year of publication, title, magazine (or name of document in which the article appeared), volume and number, and month of publication.

i4j The names of books and magazines in Japanese or Chinese should be indicated in the parentheses w@x, while names of English language books and magazines should be rendered in italics.  Also, article names should be indicated using u@v andg@hquotation marks, respectively.

i5j As a general rule, numbers should be represented in Arabic numerals.

i6j Figures (including photographs) and tables should be clear and distinct.  The quality should be such that they can be photoengraved as received.  Specify the location of the figure or table clearly in the manuscript.

i7j As a rule, the western writing style (A.D.) should be used when indicating the year.  If adding the era name and year, represent this in parentheses immediately after, for example 1913 (–¯‘2).

i8j The Association accepts no responsibility for copyright issues with respect to quotations, reproduction, and so on.

    3. Proofreading

(1) Authors may only proofread the first and second proofs of their contribution.

(2) Proofreading must be limited to the correction of words and phrases.  (For large-scale corrections, the Editorial Board may request that the author rewrite the document.)

(3) The return dates for proofread documents must be strictly observed.

    4. Separate printed copies

(1) If an article or essay, research notes, research projections or introduction of source materials is accepted for publishing, thirty complimentary printed copies will be forwarded to the author(s).

(2) If more copies are required, the author(s) may apply in advance to have extra copies printed at their own expense.  These shall be in units of 10 copies to a maximum of 100 copies.
